Dimensions® Crewel Embroidery Kits contain almost everything you need to produce a beautiful piece of stitchery. Base pattern, thread/yarn, and needles are all included, as well as basic instructions for the stitches used in the project. Crewel is a centuries old technique in which the stitched design is worked in wool yarn, or cotton embroidery floss, employing a wide array of traditional stitches such as satin, bouillion, backstitch, outline, lazy daisy, French knots, etc. Until recently the entire design was intended to be stitched, but in recent years the choice of designs has broadened with the processes devised to screen print full color on fabric, upon which only certain areas of the piece are to be stitched.
