Santa Bunny's Hat Free Knitting Pattern
Suitable for small pets, dolls or Christmas Decoration.

"Santa Bunny" aka Lacey,
7 month old French Angora Rabbit
Materials:
Materials listed are enough to make 5 or 6 hats.
Gauge:
4½ stitches per inch (stocking stitch with Cherry Red Sport
Yarn)
Using Baby Teri Yarn 9101 White cast on 32 stitches and divide evenly onto 3 dpns.
- Join, being very careful not to twist and work 6
rounds of K2P2 rib.
- Change to Red Heart Sport Yarn 912 Cherry Red and
knit one round stocking stitch.
- Knit 3 more rounds stocking stitch or work [optional
"ear-holes." See below*]
- (K6, K2tog) 4 times, Knit 2 rounds stocking stitch
- (K5, K2tog) 4 times, Knit 2 rounds stocking stitch
- (K4, K2tog) 4 times, Knit 2 rounds stocking stitch
- (K3, K2tog) 4 times, Knit 2 rounds stocking stitch
- (K2, K2tog) 4 times, Knit 2 rounds stocking stitch
- (K1, K2tog) 4 times, Knit 2 rounds stocking stitch
- (K2tog) 4 times
- Break yarn and thread through remaining four
stitches, pulling them together.
- Make a small pom-pom out of the white yarn and attach
securely to top of hat.
- Darn in yarn ends and enjoy!
*Optional "ear-holes:"
Take a look at your pet and see where you need the ear-holes.
Being a rabbit, Santa Bunny's ears are very close together on the front
of her head so her hat's ear-holes were started on stitches 3 and
27. For another animal you may need to space the holes more
evenly: beginning one at stitch 15 and one at stitch 31, perhaps. Some
experimentation may be necessary to get just the right fit.
- Knit to the designated stitch for beginning the first
ear-hole (stitch 3 for Santa Bunny) and cast off the next 3 stitches.
- Knit to the designated stitch for beginning the
second ear-hole (stitch 27 for Santa Bunny) and cast off the next 3
stitches. Knit to the end of round.
- Knit the next round. When you come to the
places where you cast off for the ear-holes make 3 backwards loops on
the needle to replace the 3 cast off stitches.
- Knit 1 round stocking stitch
